What is a bridge?

A bridge is a structure built to overcome a physical obstacle (such as a body of water, a valley, a road, or a railroad) without blocking the path below. It is built for the purpose of allowing passage over the obstacle, which is usually something that would otherwise be difficult or impossible to cross.
